What specific transition planning do you offer for military families?

We offer military families open access to come meet with our dedicated military point of contact, who helps determine correct placement for the student. Our contact gives school tours during the school day, or outside of the school day, whichever meets the needs of the family.

What specific academic planning do you offer for military families?

Our counselors review the student’s academic history in whatever format the family can provide to make an academic plan for the student rather it be in our AICE program (Advanced Academic Certificate in Education-College Preparatory) or in another appropriate program.

What resources and educational opportunities do you offer for military children?

AICE program: The Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) Diploma is an international curriculum and examination system that emphasizes the value of broad and balanced study. Passing scores on AICE exams transfer to college credit. Students who earn their AICE diploma are automatically awarded the highest level of Florida Bright Futures regardless of their GPA or ACT/SAT scores.

CTE programs: Bay’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program is responsible for developing and maintaining educational programs that prepare individuals for occupations important to Florida’s economic development. Our CTE program results in many industry certifications being awarded to our students in the areas of engineering, health science, hospitality, and digital media. We are continually expanding our offerings and certifications.

Air Force Junior ROTC: Bay High has a very active ROTC program. This program is designed to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill personal responsibility, character, and self-discipline. Our ROTC program offers cadets several opportunities to earn scholarships to continue their education after high school. They take field trips to the bases to help the cadets see what the military does so they will gain an appreciation for the military and military families.

Tell us about your student-led transition team

SGA students and ROTC cadets are paired with military students to help them navigate their new school. They spend time introducing them to new teachers, friends and happenings at school. They encourage them to join clubs and become part of a group.

What supports do you offer for military ESE children?

The IEP team will conduct a transition meeting to ensure proper services and placements are in effect for any military student with disabilities who transfers to our area.

What military recognition events do you have planned?

Bay High participates in the National Purple Up Day during the Month of the Military Child by encouraging the entire student body to wear purple to support our military children. We’ve also featured some of our military students on the local news where they talked about the struggles or challenges, and the joys of being a military child. Additionally, our JROTC hosts a pancake breakfast for our military children during the Month of the Military Child. Our JROTC also partners with our local military organizations such as VFW, American Legion, etc., to participate in several events that honor our military and veterans. They present Colors, help with fundraisers, conduct flag retirement ceremonies, march in parades, and participate in scholarship contests.

How do military children access mental health services on your campus?

Military children can access MH services through the TRIAD team or school counselors who can offer a community of care referral through the student wellness program, for the student to receive counseling if needed (with parent permission).
